FERRUM, Va. -- The Ferrum College men's soccer team posted a 4-3 come-from-behind double overtime win over visiting Bluefield College tonight at Penn-Roediger Field.
Aaron Gustine scored the game-winning goal with less than eight minutes remaining in the second and final overtime period.
Chris Benavides blasted a shot at 102:05 that Ram goalkeeper Jefferson Watson stopped, but lost control of after making the initial save, and Gustine was there to poke it away for the game-winner.
Gustine scored Ferrum's first goal of the night at 31:28, erasing an early 1-0 lead by the Rams. Christian Turcios then gave Ferrum a 2-1 lead with a goal at the 33:23 mark. Adam Hern scored a pair of goals after halftime for Bluefield, but Andres Juarez squared the match at 3-3 with a goal at 84:18. Juarez assisted on Gustine's first goal of the night.
Ferrum (1-0) returns to action Sunday, Sept. 1, at Virginia Intermont College. The non-conference game gets underway at 6:00 p.m. in Bristol.
