EMORY, Va. -- The Ferrum College football team dropped its season-opener, 49-13, to Emory & Henry College today at Fred Selfe Stadium. The Wasps opened a 42-0 halftime lead and never looked back in controling the game start to finish.
Ferrum was able to get on the scoreboard early in the third quarter when quarterback
Tim Reynolds scored on an 18-yard run, and
Wesley Franklin converted the PAT. Following another Emory & Henry score, running back
Troy Helton scored on a 10-yard run for the Panthers as time expired in the game.
The Wasps (1-0) rolled up 463 yards in total offense to Ferrum's 179 yards. Reynolds was 6-16 passing for 53 yards and two interceptions. Backup QB
Sedale Mullen was 0-1 with an interception. E&H's Kyle Boden was 26-31 for 309 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. Defensively,
Tarrell Owens had 15 tackles, including eight solo stops.
Anthony Orton and
Shapiro Keeling had nine tackles each. Paul Forney had nine tackles for Emory & Henry.
Ferrum (0-1) returns to action next Saturday, Sept. 14, in its home-opener against Shenandoah University. Prior to the game, the College will hold a dedication ceremony for the new Norton-Tolley Pressbox. The non-conference game kicks off at 1:00 p.m.
