Brian Clarke had 27 points and
Jamal Pullen had 26 points as Ferrum College beat North Carolina Wesleyan College 90-79 in USA South Athletic Conference men's basketball action this afternoon at Swartz Gymnasium.
Ferrum trailed 39-36 at halftime, but used a 9-4 run to open the second half to take a 45-43 lead when
Alek Ayer made one of two free throws at 15:50. Clarke knotted the game at 50-50 when he hit the front end of a pair of free throws at 12:41, then gave the Panthers a one-point lead when he made the second.
Ferrum would go on a 20-12 run over the next eight and a half minutes to take a 71-62 lead with 4:10 left to play when
Tyler Mann drained a three-point basket. Ferrum closed the game with a slight 41-39 rebounding edge.
Clarke was a perfect 14-14 from the free-throw line for the Panthers, and Pullen had 10 rebounds. Mann added 18 points in the win, including five three-pointers.
D.J. Weaver had 17 points for the Battling Bishops (9-12, 4-6 USA South). David Gurganus added 15 points, Josh Morrison had 12 points, and Devontae Williams had 11 points to go with 10 rebounds.
Ferrum (9-12, 5-6 USA South) is back in action Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Greensboro College. The USA South game gets underway at 7:30 p.m., following the Ferrum-Greensboro women's game.
