FERRUM, Va. -- Randolph-Macon College jumped out to a 6-1 lead midway through the second quarter, then held on for a 12-9 non-conference men's lacrosse win this afternoon over Ferrum College at W.B. Adams Stadium.
The Panthers trailed 9-5 with 5:48 remaining in the third quarter, when
Tyler Poage scored back-to-back goals, then
Daniel Batong found the back of the net once and the lead was down to one early in the fourth quarter.
The Yellow Jackets locked things up with three straight goals to take a 12-8 lead with just over two minutes remaining in regulation.
Nick Smith scored Ferrum's final goal with 41 seconds left to play.
Smith closed with three goals, Poage had two goals, and
Ethan Wakefield,
CJ Asmus and
Will Walter had one goal each. Goalkeeper
Damian Pulos played all 60 minutes in net for the Panthers, making 17 saves.
The Yellow Jackets (4-3) got four goals and an assist from Jason Andrews, and three goals each from Ryan Davidson and Justin Butler. Brian Davies went the distance in net for Randolph-Macon, logging 60 minutes and making eight stops.
Ferrum (1-7) returns to action Saturday, March 15, at McDaniel College. Game time for the non-conference game is set for 1:00 p.m. in Westminster, Maryland.
