ROANOKE, Va. --
Morgan Funck had three goals, while
Meghin Martin and
Haley Overstreet had two each as the Ferrum College women's soccer team rolled to its first win of the season with a 10-0 non-conference win over Hollins University this afternoon on the road.
Funck got Ferrum on the board early with a goal at the 2:45 mark. Martin made it 2-0 when she poked a shot past Hollins goalkeeper Megan McKee in the 17th minute of play. Funck scored less than two minutes later and the rout was on. The Panthers led 4-0 at halftime and poured it on in the second half. Also scoring a goal each were
Kelsey Guinan and
Jordyn Bauman. Guinan and Funck were credited with a pair of assists each, while Martin and
Chloe Hudson had one assist each.
McKee played all 90 minutes in net for Hollins (0-1), making 20 saves. Three players split time in net for Ferrum (1-2) in recording the shared shutout. Starter
Caitlyn Deaton played the entire first half in net.
Ashley McAllister and
Chelsea Wingate split time between the pipes in the second half. Ferrum outshot Holins 48-0.
Coach James Lofton's team will be back in action Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Emory & Henry College. The match is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m. in Emory, Virginia. The match will be part of a non-conference doubleheader, with the Panther men taking the field at 7:30 p.m.
