FERRUM, Va. -- Chase Bailey's 35-yard field goal in overtime capped a 24-0 run and gave Averett University a 31-28 come-from-behind USA South football over Ferrum College this afternoon at W.B. Adams Stadium. Ferrum was playing its first game on campus this season now that the field turf project was completed.

How It Happened
On Ferrum's first drive of the game, Jake Salisbury intercepted an errant
Troy Helton pass and returned it to the Ferrum one yard line, where Ray Brown plunged in to give Averett a 7-0 lead less than two minutes into the game. The Panthers regrouped to score rushing touchdowns by
Joseph Barton and
D'Andre Cook and Ferrum led 14-7 at halftime. Helton and
Harvey Taylor then scored rushing touchdowns in the third quarter and the Panthers led 28-7. Averett mounted a furious comeback, scoring three touchdowns; Travis Jones on a 14-yard run, Brenden Hughes on a 6-yard pass from Kelly Hall and Jones again on an 11-yard run. Ferrum had possession first in the overtime period, where Helton was picked off on third and eight. Hall then drove the Cougars to the Ferrum 15 yard line, setting up Bailey's game-winning kick.
