FERRUM, Va. - Mary Washington scored seven unanswered first half goals to take a 7-2 lead at the break, and went on to post a 15-6 non-conference men's lacrosse win over Ferrum College this afternoon at W.B. Adams Stadium.

Ferrum opened a 2-0 lead when Chase Tallon and Ethan Wakefield found the back of the net in the first three minutes of the game. Things looked good for the Panthers but Mary Washington settled in and responded with a pair of goals to close out the first quarter. UMW then scored five goals in the second quarter and the rout was on.

Ryan Tesler scored a goal for Ferrum at 13:01 of the third quarter, but the Eagles responded with three more, including one with no time left on the clock to go up 10-3 as the quarter ended. Ferrum continued to play hard, scoring three fourth-quarter goals, one each by Tyler Fuller, Tesler and Wakefield.

Wakefield closed the game with two goals and two assists, and Tesler added a pair of goals. John Michael Smith played all 60 minutes in net for the Panthers, making 13 stops. Mary Washington got four goals and two assists from John Bondurant. Colin Bressan played all 60 minutes for the Eagles (4-2) with four saves.

Ferrum (3-7) return to action Saturday, March 21, at home against Piedmont College. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
