BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Ferrum College rallied to score four runs in the seventh inning and erase a one-run deficit en route to an 11-5 non-conference baseball win over Bridgewater College this afternoon on the road at BC Baseball Field.
Ty Comer had a solo home run in the first inning and a three-run shot in the seventh for the Panthers. Comer went 4-5 on the day with two homers, three runs and six RBI.
Jake Irvin led off the seventh inning with a walk,
Adam Duncan singled and both runners advanced on a wild pitch.
Kyle Hall reached on an error, allowing Irvin to score, and Comer's second homer of the game plated three runs to put Ferrum on top 7-4.
Ferrum used five pitchers, as did Bridgewater.
Manny Torres pitched the sixth and seventh innings to improve to 2-1, and
Jared Talley tossed the final two frames to earn his fifth save. Darren Yoder went 3-5 with a triple and a run for the Eagles (14-7-1).
Ferrum (16-11) returns to action Friday and Saturday, April 3-4, at home against Covenant College. The two teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader Friday starting at 2:00 p.m., and a single game Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Ferrum and Covenant were the USA South co-champs a year ago, with the Scots earning the league's automatic qualifier into the NCAA Div. III playoffs.
