FERRUM, Va. --
Kylene Culler's single to center field in the bottom of the eighth inning drove in the game-winning run in the nightcap to give Ferrum College a USA South Athletic Conference softball sweep over Covenant College this afternoon at Franklin Community Bank Field. Ferrum won the opener 10-2 in six innings, then needed eight innings to get past the Scots 6-5 in game two.
Culler had a grand slam in the first inning of the opener.
Amanda Roberts earned the win, allowing seven hits and two earned runs over five innings with two strikeouts.
Lindsey Slover went 3-4 in game two with two runs and three RBI. Slover closed the afternoon 5-8 with a triple, three runs and seven RBI for the Panthers.
Tyler Epes had five strikeouts in the nightcap for the Scots (5-3, 0-2 USA South). Ferrum (7-1, 2-0 USA South) entertains Piedmont College Sunday, March 8. The USA South doubleheader gets underway at 12:00 p.m.
