DANVILLE, Va. -- Drew Evans' single in the bottom of the ninth inning drove in Timmy Coston and Ramel Reynolds and lifted Averett University to a 10-9 come-from-behind win over Ferrum College in the rubber game of the USA South baseball series.
Ferrum led 5-1 in the third inning, but Averett came back to plate a run in the bottem of the frame and two more in the fourth to cut the lead to 5-4. Both teams scored a run in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth inning. Ferrum led 9-8 following scoreless seventh and eighth innings.
Taylor Davis went 4-5 with a solo home run in the third inning for the Cougars (8-4, 6-3 USA South).
Adam Duncan went 5-5 with a triple and three runs for the Panthers.
Clay Massie had a solo homer in the second inning for Ferrum.
Ferrum (8-7, 7-5 USA South) will be on the road Tuesday, March 10, at Lynchburg College. The non-conference game gets underway at 3:00 p.m. in Lynchburg, Virginia. The Panthers then play a three-game USA South series at Maryville College March 14-15, with two games Saturday and one Sunday in Maryville, Tennessee.
