FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College built a three-goal lead with five minutes left in regulation, then hung on for a 10-9 non-conference men's lacrosse win over Randolph College this afternoon at W.B. Adams Stadium.
Marcus Boyer's goal at 5:20 put the Panthers in front 10-7 and proved to the game-winner. Graham Southwick scored back-to-back goals for the Wildcats to make it a 10-9 game with 20 seconds left, but Ferrum's defense held and helped record the team's fourth straight win.
Ethan Wakefield led Ferrum with four goals and a pair of assists. Boyer and
Tyler Fullem had two goals each. Goalkeeper
John Michael Smith played all 60 minutes in net, making nive saves. Shane Soghomonian had three goals for the Wildcats (4-5), while GK Cam Davis also played 60 minutes in net with 12 stops.
Ferrum (7-7) returns to action Wednesday, April 8, at home against Guilford College. The non-conference game gets underway at 4:00 p.m. With two games remaining, Ferrum has a chance to post its first .500 or better season in the five-year history of the Panther program.
