DANVILLE, Va. -- Ferrum College played exceptional defense in earning a 14-3 USA South Athletic Conference football win over Averett University tonight in front of 1,500 fans at Campbell Stadium.

THE BASICS
CJ Kaashif tackled Averett running back Sean Bowman in the end zone for a rare safety less than five minutes into the game to spot Ferrum a 2-0 lead.
Gejaun Keith blocked an Averett 31-yard field goal attempt just before halftime to keep the shutout alive headed into the break.
Chase Deaton split the uprights from 20 yards out midway through the third quarter to make it 5-0 Ferrum, then
Brian Mann scored on a 20-yard run with less than seven minutes left to play to push the lead to 11-0 after a failed 2-point PAT. Cole Westberry's 30-yard field goal a few minutes later helped Averett avoid the USA South shutout. Ferrum drove to the nine yard line, where with 29 seconds left, Deaton drilled his second field goal of the night, this time from a 26 yards out for the final score of the game.
