FERRUM, Va. -- Averett University got three free throws from James Contreras in the final second of the game to pull out a 59-58 USA South Athletic Conference men's basketball win over Ferrum College tonight at Swartz Gym.

Contreras was fouled behind the three-point line with 4/10 of a second left in regulation and Averett trailing 58-56, then made all three free throws to give the Cougars the USA South win. Averett was a perfect 16-16 from the line, compared to Ferrum's 11-22 clip. Averett also outrebounded Ferrum 47-33.
