DANVILLE, Va. -- Ferrum College earned a 6-2 baseball win over Averett University this afternoon on the road in the first of a three-game USA South series with the Cougars at Owen-Fulton Field.

THE BASICS
Ferrum got a run in the first inning when Lane Deaver walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch, then scored on a throwing error. Deaver sent a ball over the right field fence in the third inning to increase the lead to 3-0. The Panthers got two more runs in the sixth inning, one on Kyle Anstice's RBI single and the other on Tim Ortega's sacrifice fly to put Ferrum out front 5-2 after six full innings. Brandon West's single through the right side drove in Ferrum's final run in the eighth inning.
