Box Score

WINCHESTER, Virginia -- The Ferrum College men's basketball team made it four straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference victories with a 78-70 win over the Hornets of Shenandoah University on the road Saturday evening. Saturday's game also marked the second straight ODAC game in which the Panthers knocked down 15 treys.

RECORDS
Ferrum (5-3, 4-2 ODAC)
Shenandoah (0-5, 0-5 ODAC)

THE BASICS
The Panthers came out shooting to begin the game, as Darius Kemp started 3-3 from three-point land to claim the early lead for Ferrum. Shenandoah would then even things up as both teams would play the first half battling back and forth. The Hornets would then take a six-point lead, the highest of the first half, but the Panthers would cut it to just one point at the halftime break.

Ferrum, like the first half, would start the closing stanza strong with a Kajuan Madden-McAfee trey and then a Kalip Jones three to take the lead. That lead would be one the Panthers would not give up, as Head Coach Tyler Sanborn's team would not trail in the second half after the quick six points. It was foul trouble that plagued the Shenandoah Hornet comeback effort, as the Panthers were able to take advantage of the adjustments to the Hornet line-up down the stretch. Free throws from Madden-McAfee and Jones sealed the game in the final minute, and the Panther win streak was extended another game.

The Panthers used offensive outbursts from Madden-McAfee and Kemp to take control of this one. Madden-McAfee scored all of his team-high 20 points in the second half as he also collected eight rebounds. Kemp was balanced across both halves, recording 19 points and 9 boards on 7-12 shooting from the field. James Smith Jr. had a big game off the bench for Ferrum, as the Senior Guard added 15 points. Carrington Young filled the stat sheet as well, finishing with six dimes and five boards.

For the Hornets, Zach Garrett led the way on offense with 20 points on 6-8 shooting to go along with six rebounds. Andres Frye was close behind with 18 points and six rebounds. Jaylan Williams had a strong game as well for Shenandoah, recording 14 points and four rebounds.

BEHIND THE WHISTLE
"Always great to get a road conference win. I don't think we played our best or most consistent basketball, but we found a way. There is something to be said for that. We have a high ceiling and we aren't quite there yet, we have to keep working and keep getting better everyday." --Head Coach Tyler Sanborn
