THE BASICS
The Tigers got things started early as they capitalized on an early Ferrum miscue. Ferrum's Zeb Dyer took the opening snap and lost the ball before he could get in the throwing motion, allowing Hampden-Sydney to jump on it and be in Ferrum territory right away. Two plays later, the Tigers would find pay dirt with a Cole Becker rush from eight yards out and take a 7-0 lead.
Kaleb Smith would then put the Tigers up two scores as he found the endzone for the first of three times from one yard out with 4:08 to play in the opening stanza. The second quarter would prove to be Smith's show, as the junior running back would add two more touchdowns, the first from three yards out and the latter from 20 yards out as the Tigers would take a 28-0 lead into the midway break.
Hampden-Sydney would only need :59 to score to start the second half, as Blake Page hauled in a 33-yard pass from Tanner Bernard. The Panthers would respond as senior back Joey Lama found the end zone from a yard out as the lead was cut to 35-7. Page capped out the scoring in the third frame with another touchdown reception from 20 yards out and the Tigers led 42-7 through three complete
Ferrum would not go away quiet, as a Titus Jones bomb to Tmahdae Penn from 44 yards out opened the fourth quarter scoring but that was as close as the Panthers would get. The Tigers would answer with 6-yard touchdown rush from Justin Pollard and make the advantage 49-14. Ferrum would record the last score of the game as Penn added another score to his impressive line as it would end with a 49-21 scoreline.
The Tiger offense was lead by Smith and Becker, as Becker recorded 108 yards on the ground with a touchdown and Smith 82 yards and three scores. Bernard was 14-22 through the air for two touchdowns and a pick. Receiving, Page led the way with four catches for 121 yards and two scores.
