Box Score 2 FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College split a non-conference softball doubleheader with Averett University, dropping the opener 15-7 and taking the nightcap 5-3 tonight at American National Bank Field.

GAME 1
Arielle Eure had a pair of home runs for Ferrum in game one, a solo blast to right center in the first inning, then a solo bomb to left center in the third.
Skyler Swaney and Bayley Cunningham had RBI singles for the Panthers, and Tori Scott's fielder's choice drove in a pair of runs, all in the fifth inning. Breanna Weaver also had an RBI single for Ferrum in the sixth inning.
Swaney went 3-4 with a run and an RBI. Ashton Lambeth (L, 3-5) got the loss after pitching 1.2 innings in relief with six hits, four earned runs and a strikeout.
Kaitlyn Aherron and Lauren Nelson had home runs for Averett in the fifth inning, Aherron with a solo homer and Nelson with a pinch-hit three-run shot. Aherron went 3-5 with a pair of runs and two RBI for the Cougars. Starter Taylor Sullivan (W, 4-2) got the win after pitching four innings and allowing six hits and two earned runs, with seven strikeouts.
GAME 2
Averett led 3-0 midway through the fifth inning of the nightcap, only to see the Panthers score five in the bottom half of the frame. Eure doubled off the centerfield fence to drive in two runs, then Weaver's fielder's choice sac bunt scored another.
Swaney followed with a perfect bunt single that popped over the pitcher's head and scored a run, then Cunningham ripped an RBI single to right field to drive in Ferrum's final run.
Lambeth (W, 4-5) pitched 3.2 innings in relief to get the win, allowing four hits, an earned run and two walks, with one strikeout. Erin Nelson went 2-3 with a double and scored a run. Nelson started the game on the mound, working 3.1 innings and allowing six hits, two earned runs and a walk.
Eure went 2-4 with two doubles, a run and two RBI. In two games, Eure went 4-7 with two doubles, two homers, four runs and four RBI.
Anna Coleman went 2-3 with a double and an RBI, while Lauren Johnston went 2-4. Aherron (L, 4-6) absorbed the loss, allowing eight hits, five earned runs and a walk, with three strikeouts.
