Box Score BUENA VISTA, Virginia -- Ozzie Torres' solo homer broke a 6-6 stalemate in the top of the seventh inning and lifted Ferrum College to a 7-6 baseball win this afternoon over Southern Virginia University. The non-conference game was held at Parry McCluer High School.

THE BASICS
Southern Virginia struck first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning. Ferrum tied the game in the top of the second when Nick Funk scored on Clayton Michael's sacrifice fly to left field, then Bryce Thacker scored on a wild pitch. The Knights added a run in the bottom the the frame and led 3-2 after two innings.
The Panthers tied the game on Grayson Chitwood's solo homer to right field in the third inning, but SVU went back out in front 4-3 with a run in the fifth. In the sixth inning, Funk's RBI double to left-center drove Torres in, Funk scored on an error and Bryce Thacker scored on Dylan Sereno's RBI single to give Ferrum a 6-4 lead.
The Knights tied the game at 6-6 in the bottom of the sixth inning off Ethan Bergstrom's two-run homer. Torres then sent a ball over the left field fence and the Panther defense did the rest to reserve the win. Matt Sheppard came on to pitch the ninth inning and struck out two batters, collecting his first save.
