FERRUM, Virginia -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) has announced its Athlete of the Week honorees and Ferrum College's Lyndsey Sears has been named Softball Pitcher of the Week for her part in the Panthers' play last week.
A junior from Forest City, North Carolina, Sears highlighted her week with a pair of wins March 26 at home over #3-ranked Virginia Wesleyan University, last year's NCAA Division III National Champion.
Sears pitched a complete game in the opener against the Marlins, striking out two. She then tossed the final two frames in the nightcap with two more strikeouts to earn her second win in as many outings.
She then pitched a complete game one-hitter in the opener of an ODAC sweep over Shenandoah University March 27 at home. In that game. she struck out four Hornet batters to improve to 9-3 on the mound this season. For the week, she made four appearances and pitched 23 innings with 21 strikeouts.
This is Sears' first ODAC Player of the Week honor. She was a Virginia College Division Softball All-State second team pick in 2020, as named by the Virginia Sports Information Directors.
Ferrum is currently 14-6 this season under seventh-year Head Coach Gerald Culler, and the team sits atop the ODAC softball standings with a perfect 4-0 league mark. Ferrum returns to action Wednesday, March 30, at home against Carolina University. The non-conference doubleheader is set for a 4:00 p.m. start at American National Bank Field.
