KODAK, Tennessee – Ferrum College won a non-conference baseball game over Covenant College, winning 8-4 tonight at Smokies Stadium. The game was the first of a three-game series this weekend.

THE BASICS
Ferrum got things started in the bottom half of the third inning, when Clayton Michael tripled to right field and scored Justin Brady and Tyson Measamer. Davis Yeaman then singled to drive in Michael and give the Panthers a 3-0 lead.

Ozzie Torres added to the lead in the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run to left field. Covenant scored their first run of the game in the top half of the sixth, to cut the lead to 5-1. Ferrum added one more in the bottom of the sixth to increase the lead to 6-1.

Torres and Jacob Gladstone would score on a wild pitch and a balk, and the lead was 7-1. The Panthers and Scots would both grab a run in the eighth, giving Ferrum a 8-2 lead going into the ninth. Covenant would score two more in the top of the ninth to close out the scoring.

Starting Pitcher Cameron Mullins (2-0) got the win for the Panthers tonight. Pitching 7.0 innings, he allowed four hits and one run with no walks and seven strikeouts. Starter Aaron Northcutt (0-2) was credited with the loss for the Scots. He pitched 5.2 innings, giving up 10 hits, five runs with no walks and four strikeouts. Dawson Wiggins pitched two innings in relief for Ferrum, allowing six hits, three runs and no walks with two strikeouts.
