Mitcham Named ODAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week

FERRUM, Virginia -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference has named Athletes of the Week and Ferrum College senior Ashlynn Mitcham has been named Women's Soccer Player of the Week.

Mitcham recorded game-winning goals in both of the Panthers' games last week. She opened scoring in a 2-0 win over Southern Virginia University September 18 at home. Mitcham then scored Ferrum's second goal of the game in a 3-1 win over Averett University September 21 at home.

A senior forward from Newport, Virginia, Mitcham prepped at Giles High School. Through Ferrum's first seven games, Mitcham has 14 points on seven goals and leads the team in game-winning goals with three. This is Mitcham's first career ODAC Player of the Week honor.

Mitcham's ODAC Player of the Week honor is the second this season for Ferrum, including Jahylen Lee's Football Offensive Player of the Week honor on September 15.

Coach Erin Saleeby's team is 7-0 to open the 2024 season, the best start in program history since the inception of the sport on campus in 1991. The Panther women's soccer program has had two 6-0 season starts prior to this year, in 1996 under Coach Tom Thatcher and 2015 under Coach James Lofton.

Saleeby's team will be back in action Tuesday, September 24, at Meredith College. The non-conference game is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start in Raleigh, North Carolina.
