FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to pull out a 13-12 non-conference baseball win over Southern Virginia University March 25 at home.
The Panthers trailed 12-11 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning when shortstop
Jesse Fuller led off the inning with a solo homer to tie the game.
Ethan Fowlkes pinch-hit for outfielder
Michael Nolte and smacked a triple, then scored on an error by Knights' third baseman Jake Johnson to end the game.
Lincoln Garner got the win in relief of
Brian Mays. Garner pitched the final three innings, allowing four hits and three earned runs while striking out four and walking two. Mays allowed nine hits and three earned runs over six innings, struck out six and walked two.
Outfielder
Travis Crump went 5-5 tonight with two triples, two doubles, three runs and an RBI. Catcher
Nick Baker went 4-5 with a home run, two doubles, four RBI and three runs. Fuller went 3-5 with a homer, two RBI and two runs.
The win snaps a five-game losing streak for the Panthers. Southern Virginia falls to 7-12 with the loss. Ferrum (6-11) will be back in action Thursday, March 27, at Emory & Henry College. The non-conference game will get underway at 3 p.m.
