
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Methodist University rallied with three singles and a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to earn a 3-1 USA South baseball win over Ferrum College March 8.
Methodist (12-6, 2-1 USA South) got a stellar pitching performance from sophomore Fred Geisinger, who pitched a complete game for the Monarchs to earn the win. Geisinger scattered six hits over nine innings, struck out eight of the 31 batters he faced, walked none and allowed one earned run.
Ferrum (4-4, 2-1 USA South) got a pair of base hits from sophomore third baseman
Eric Harrell, who went 2-4 at the plate. Sophomore
Brian Bowles absorbed the loss for the Panthers. Bowles allowed nine hits and three earned runs over seven innings, fanning four.
Ferrum and Methodist face each other again Sunday, March 9. Game time is 2:00 p.m. in Fayetteville. Ferrum, Methodist and Christopher Newport University are in a three-way tie for first place in the USA South standings.
