FERRUM, Va. -- The Ferrum College women's tennis team defeated Southern Virginia University 6-3 April 10 at home. The Panthers won four singles and two doubles matches in recording the non-conference win.
Senior
Katie Porter defeated Kenny Vial 6-2, 7-6 at #3 singles, winning the second set 8-6 in the tie-break. Freshman
Morgan Moran beat Mirissa Garff 6-0, 6-3 at #4 singles, while
Shauna Simon beat Kate Nelson 6-2, 6-0 at the #5 spot. The Panthers picked up a forfeit win at #6 singles.
In doubles, Moran and junior
Brittany Rodgers won 8-4 over Vial and Garff, while Simon teamed with senior
Crystal Akers at #3 for an 8-4 win over Nelson and Allison Johnson.
Ferrum improves to 5-7 with the win. Coach Rod Baker's team will be back in action Friday, April 11, at Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Panthers close out regular season play Sunday, April 13 at home against North Carolina Wesleyan College. Both are USA South Athletic Conference matches.
On Tuesday, April 15, Ferrum will host a USA South Tournament quarterfinal match, the opponent for which has yet to be determined. That match will begin at 4 p.m.
