DEMOREST, Ga. -- Ferrum College's baseball team had its five-game win streak snapped with an 8-3 loss to Piedmont College this afternoon on the road.

The game was played as part of the 2009 Rawlings Southern Classic, being held this weekend at Piedmont, Oglethorpe University and Emory University.
Piedmont (5-4) and Ferrum had 10 hits each this afternoon. The Lions were led by Justin Vorherr, who went 2-4 with a run and two RBI. Zack Kunz went 2-5 with a double and a stolen base. Ferrum got two base hits each from
Travis Crump,
Kevin Marshall and
Jesse Fuller.
Matt Burgess got the win for Piedmont on the mound. He allowed nine hits and one earned run over 7.2 innings, walking four and striking out six.
Brian Mays got the loss for Ferrum. He allowed seven runs over 4.1 innings, walked eight and struck out five.
Ferrum (6-2) will close out action at the 2009 Rawlings Southern Classic Sunday, Feb. 22, at Emory University. The con-conference game is set to get underway at 2 p.m. in Atlanta.
