FERRUM, Va. --
Gabe Moncada's single in the bottom of the 10th inning drove in the winning run as Ferrum College defeated Washington and Lee University 4-3 in non-conference baseball this afternoon at home.
The Panthers trailed 3-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs before starting a rally that would see them tie the game. Franklin doubled then scored on Moncada's double.
Travis Crump singled to drive in Moncada and tie the game at 3-3.
In the bottom of the 10th inning,
Jason Butterworth doubled to start another two-out rally.
Patrick Crooks and
Kevin Marshall were both hit by pitches to load the bases. Moncada drove in the winning run with a single into shallow right field, allowing Butterworth to score from third.
Moncada and
Paul Jaglowski each had two base hits for Ferrum. Washington and Lee (8-4) got three hits each from C.J. Thompson and Byron Peyster.
Peter Larson got the win for Ferrum, pitching two innings in relief. He allowed one hit and no runs, while walking three. Alson James was the losing pitcher. He pitched just two thirds of an inning, allowing two hits and an earned run.
Ferrum (8-5) is back in action Thursday, March 12, at home against Hampden-Sydney College. The non-conference game is set to start at 3 p.m. at Panther Field.
