DANVILLE, Va. -- Mike Moore's single down the right field line in the bottom of the seventh inning drove in Cliff Hodges for the winning run as Averett University defeated Ferrum College 4-3 in USA South baseball action this afternoon at Owen-Fulton Field.
Michael Nolte went 2-4 with two doubles and two RBI for Ferrum, while
Paul Jaglowski went 2-5 with a run and a stolen base.
Dennis Cauley, who pitched two innings in relief and got the loss, allowed one earned run.
Moore went 3-3 with a run and two RBI for Averett (6-9, 1-0 USA South). Jake Loye, who homered for in the fifth inning, went 2-4. Ben Hildreth threw a complete 9-inning game. He allowed seven hits, three earned runs and a walk, and struck out 10 batters.
Ferrum (6-5, 0-1 USA South) will play at Averett again Sunday, March 8, at 2 p.m. in Danville. The Panthers will host two games at Panther Field this week; Wednesday, March 11, against Washington & Lee University and Thursday, March 12, against Hampden-Sydney College. Both non-conference games begin at 3 p.m.
