BURLINGTON, N.C. -- Ferrum College trailed 6-2 but scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to defeat Averett University 9-6 April 17 in the second day of action at the 2009 USA South Baseball Tournament at Burlington Athletic Stadium.

Patrick Crooks and
Gabe Moncada had home runs for the Panthers to help advance in the league's post-season tournament. Marshall and Crooks each homered in the fifth inning, a three-run homer and a two-run shot, respectively. Moncada had a two-run blast in the sixth inning for insurance.
Travis Crump went 3-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Nick Enstminger pitched 3.1 innings in relief to get the win.
Leadoff hitter Adam Higgins went 4-5 with a double, two runs, an RBI and two stolen bases for Averett (14-23-1). Starter Chase Hall absorbed the loss, pitching 4.2 innings.
Ferrum (14-13) will face Shenandoah University Saturday at 12 p.m. The Panthers are Hornets are the two teams still undefeated in the tournament.
