Baseball Drops Season Opener to Roanoke

DANVILLE, Va. -- The Ferrum College baseball team suffered a 6-5 setback to Roanoke College in its 2010 season opener.  The game was played at Averett University.

First baseman Justin Franklin went 2-4 with a triple for the Panthers, scored a run and drove in two others.  Shortstop Paul Jaglowski went 2-3 with a double and scored two runs.

Starter Jon Wilson absorbed the loss for Ferrum.  He pitched 4.2 innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs, while walking three batters and striking out one.

Right fielder Cameron Travelini, shortstop Graham Thacker and third baseman Alan Moore each had a pair of base hits for the Maroons  Tyler Grouten pitched 4.1 innings of relief to earn the win for Roanoke (1-2).  He allowed one hit and one earned run, walked none and fanned two.

Ferrum (0-1) is scheduled to play Roanoke Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. in its home-opener.
