Hornets Beat Ferrum in Baseball

WINCHESTER, Va. -- Greg Van Sickler pitched a complete game six-hitter, striking out eight batters, and solo homered in the second inning to lead Shenandoah University to a 9-2 win over Ferrum College in USA South baseball April 9.

Jason Parker went 2-3 with a double and an RBI for Ferrum, while Paul Jaglowski went 2-4.  Starter Brian Mays absorbed the loss, pitching seven innings.  He allowed 10 hits and one earned run, walked two and struck out five.

Ferrum committed four errors, three of which came in the seventh inning and helped Shenandoah score five unearned runs.

Van Sickler pitched nine innings to get the win for Shenandoah ((27-6, 7-4 USA South), allowing six hits and two earned runs, walking one and striking out eight.

Ferrum (18-10, 5-6 USA South) will play the Hornets again Sunday, April 11, to close out the league series.  Coach Darren Hodges' team will then play in the USA South Tournament, to be held April 15-19 at Burlington Athletic Stadium.
