FERRUM, Va. -- Shenandoah University belted five home runs en route to a 22-7 USA South baseball win over Ferrum College this afternoon at Panther Field. The #6-ranked Hornets got three homers in the seventh inning, pushing six runs across the plate and causing the game to be halted early.
All-American pitcher/DH Greg Van sickler and Kurt Krout had two homers each for Shenandoah (7-0, 2-0 USA South). Catcher
Sammy Holloway had a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning for Ferrum (5-5, 0-2 USA South). Holloway went 2-4 with a run and an RBI.
Travis Crump and
Josh Mahaffey each had a pair of base hits for the Panthers.
Shenandoah reliever Brian Fream (1-0) was credited with the win, while starter
Morgan Boles (1-2) absorbed the loss for Ferrum.
The Panthers travel to Florida this week to play four games during Spring Break. Coach Darren Hodges' team will play Marywood College, Adrian College, Martin Luther College (doubleheader) and Misericordia University consecutively from March 2-5. All four non-conference games will be played in Port St. Lucie.
