FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to secure a 3-2 come-from-behind baseball win over non-conference opponent York (Pa.) College tonight at Panther Field.
With Ferrum trailing 2-0,
Josh Mahaffey led off the bottom of the ninth with a walk, and
Wade Ostrowski came in to pinch run.
Peter Byron then walked, advancing Ostrowski to second.
Sammy Holloway reached on a fielder's choice when York's attempt to get Ostrowski out at third failed, loading the bases with no outs.
Jason Parker's ground out to first base advanced all three runners, including Ostrowski, who crossed the plate and trimmed the lead to 2-1.
Ryan Easterly singled, scoring Byron from third to tie the game.
Taryn Hayden then reached on a fielder's choice, and York's botched attempt at getting Easterly out at second allowed Holloway to score the winning run.
Easterly went 3-5 with an RBI for the Panthers (18-20) and Josh Chocklette got the win, pitching two thirds of an inning. Starter
Brandon West pitched well, allowing five hits and one earned run over 8.1 inningw with three strikeouts.
The Spartans (11-27) got two base hits each from Justin Cohen and Rob Klinck. Joey Couch pitched the first eight innings for York, allowing just three hits and striking out 10. The two teams are scheduled to meet again Sunday at 1 p.m. in Ferrum.
