FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College picked up a 3-2 non-conference baseball win over visiting Roanoke College this afternoon at Panther Field. The game was originally scheduled to be played Thursday, Feb. 16, but was postponed due to inclement weather.
The Panthers (4-1) scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 3-1 lead, then held on for the non-conference win.
Brennen Iley's two-RBI double in the sixth drove in the eventual game-winning run, scored by
Daniel Alvarez. Iley went 1-4 with two RBI, while Alvarez went 1-3 with a run, a walk and an RBI.
Adam Duncan pitched 1.2 innings in relief of starter
Chris Madison. Duncan allowed no hits, runs or walks, and struck out two batters to get the win. Madison allowed three hits and an earned run in 5.1 innings of work, striking out two batters and walking one.
Tyler Easterly was credited with the save, pitching the final inning with no hits, runs or walks, while fanning two Maroon batters.
Brian Kluge went 2-4 with a double scored a run for Roanoke (0-5). Mark Wimmer absorbed the loss for the Maroons, allowing three earned runs and a hit.
Ferrum (4-1) returns to action Sunday, Feb. 19, with a non-conference doubleheader at home against Eastern Mennonite University. The first game is set to start at 2 p.m. at Panther Field.
