FERRUM, Va. --
Wes Walker went 3-4 with a double, two runs and two RBI to help Ferrum College earn an 8-4 non-conference baseball win over Bridgewater College this afternoon at Panther Field.
Bridgewater scored first with a run in the second inning. The Panthers responded with two runs in the third inning, only to see the Eagle tied the game 2-2 with a run in the fourth. Walker and
Clay Massie each double in the fifth inning, with Massie driving in two of the three runs Ferrum would scored in that frame to take a 5-2 lead.
The Panthers tacked on another two runs in the seventh inning. Massie walked with the bases loaded to allow
Brennen Iley to score, then
Ryan Morris hit a sacrifice fly to deep right field to score Walker. Derrik Walling had a solo hoe run to lead off the eighth inning for W&L to cut the lead to 7-3.
Justin Cox scored in the bottom of the eight for Ferrum off a Walker RBI single. The Generals picked up another run in the top of ninth inning but stranded three runners to end the game.
Taryn Hayden earned the win, pitching 2.1 innings of middle relief. Robert Gallet absorbed the loss for Bridgewater (0-1).
Ferrum returns to action Friday through Sunday, Feb. 15-17, at home against USA South opponent Greensboro College. The Panthers (2-4) face the Pride Friday at 3:00 p.m., Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
