FERRUM, Va. -- Ferrum College dropped a 2-1 non-nonference baseball game this afternoon to Roanoke College at Panther Field. Ferrum led 1-0 after three innings, before the Maroons knotted the score at 1-1 in the fourth and scored the winning run in the top of the ninth.
Bradley Mattox singled in the top of the ninth, then scored on a Boone Hagy RBI single to lift Roanoke to the win. Joe Sherbo, who pitched the eighth inning, was credited with the win and Austin Gregory got the save. Both pitchers faced four batters, walked one and allowed no hits.
Ferrum managed just three base hits off nine different pitchers.

Javin Metz absorbed the loss, pitching 3.2 innings of middle relief and allowing three hits and an earned run.
Ferrum (1-1) returns to action Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 9-10, with a USA South Athletic Conference series at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Virginia. The two teams will play a doubleheader Saturday starting at 11:00 a.m., then a single game Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
