DANVILLE, Va. -- Taylor Davis' solo homer in the bottom of the fourth inning was enough to lift Averett University to a 1-0 USA South Athletic Conference baseball win over Ferrum College this afternoon at Owen Fulton Field. 

Chris Walker pitched a complete game for Ferrum with six strikeouts.  Walker scattered four hits over eight innings and allowed one earned run with four walks.  Jeffery Swoope went 2-3 with a stolen base for Ferrum (7-8, 3-7 USA South) 

Ben Florence improved to 3-1 with the win.  He pitched 6.1 innings for the Cougars (12-3, 5-2 USA South), allowing three hits and four walks, and struck out four.  Averett and Ferrum will play again Satuday and Sunday, both at 1:00 p.m.
