DEMOREST, Ga. -- Ferrum College split today's USA South Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader with Piedmont College, falling 11-1 in the opener and winning 9-1 in game two. The Lions took two of the series' three games, winning 4-3 over Ferrum in 12 innings on March 22.
Ferrum's
Justin Cox had a pair of base hits in today's opener, while Chris Goershel pitched a five-hitter with seven strikeouts to earn the win for the Lions. Josh Bailey had a three-run homer in the first inning, and Keith Grabowski went 4-4 for Piedmont (14-12, 11-7 USA South).
Chris Walker pitched a complete nine-inning game in the nightcap for Ferrum, allowing just three hits and a run, while striking out 10.

Wade Ostrowski each had two base hits for the Panthers.
Ferrum (11-17, 6-15 USA South) is back in action Friday and Saturday, March 29-30, at home against North Carolina Wesleyan College. The three-game USA South series begins Friday with a doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m., and concludes with a single game Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
