GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Rebekah Langston tossed a three-hit shutout in Guilford College's 3-0 nightcap win to give the Quakers the non-conference softball doubleheader sweep this afternoon over Ferrum College. Guilford won the first game 6-5 in eight innings.
Ferrum led 4-1 after four innings in the opener, only to see the Quakers score three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game 4-4. Each team scored a run in the seventh inning. Casey Snead then ripped a single in the bottom of the extra inning to drive in the winning run.
Chloe Brzycki went 3-3 with a double, a run and an RBI for Ferrum in the opener. Langston struck out six Ferrum batters in the nightcap for the Quakers (7-1).
Ferrum (0-2) plays next on Friday, Feb. 28, at Piedmont College. The USA South Athletic Conference doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. in Demorest, Georgia. Coach Vickie Van Kleeck's team will then play at league newcomer Covenant College Saturday, March 1, in Lookout Mountain, Georgia, at 1:00 p.m.
