LaGRANGE, Ga. --
Clay Massie homered in the top of the ninth inning to help Ferrum College complete a three-game USA South Athletic Conference baseball series sweep over LaGrange College with today's 5-3 win on the road.
Austin Winkles opened the ninth inning with a single, advanced to second on
Hank Parsley's sacrifice bunt, then scored when Massie blasted a shot over the left field fence. Massie closed the game 4-4 with a homer, scored two runs and drove in two.
Taryn Hayden went 2-4 with a double and two RBI, and
Adam Duncan went 2-4 with a double and a run. Duncan also pitched three innings in relief to get the win for Ferrum. He allowed five hits, no runs or walks, and struck out four batters. Jim Reed went 4-5 with a run for LaGrange (3-11, 1-5 USA South).
Ferrum (11-4, 8-1 USA South) returns to action Saturday and Sunday, March 15-16, with a three-game USA South series at North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, N.C. The two teams will play a pair of games Saturday starting at 12:00 p.m., then come back with a single game Sunday at 3:00 p.m.
