STAUNTON, Va. --
Amanda Roberts had a three-run homer in the opener as Ferrum College took the front half of a USA South softball doubleheader 8-0 in five innings over Mary Baldwin College. The Panthers claimed a 6-1 win in the nightcap to complete the series sweep.
Roberts' fourth-inning blast over the left field fence scored
Alicia Eichenlaub and
Karly Thompson. Roberts went 2-3 at the plate and pitched the opening four innings to get the win. She allowed one hit and no walks, and struck out five batters. Thompson went 2-4 with two runs and two RBI, and
Chloe Brzycki went 2-3 with a double and an RBI.
Aiyana Lew pitched six innings and struck out six in the nightcap to get the win. Thompson went 2-4 with two runs and a stolen base.
Ferrum (11-5, 7-3 USA South) returns to action Saturday, March 15, at home against North Carolina Wesleyan College. The USA South doubleheader gets underway at 1:00 p.m. at Franklin Community Bank Field. Coach Vickie Van Kleeck's team will play another league doubleheader Sunday, March 16, against Averett University in Danville, Virginia, starting at 2:00 p.m.
