BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Ferrum College dropped a 15-5 non-conference baseball game tonight to Roanoke College at Virginia Tech's English Field. The Maroons jumped on top 8-0 after an inning of play.
Ferrum battled back to make it an 8-5 game after three innings, but the Maroons tacked on a run in the top of the fourth and two more in the fifth to go up 11-5. Roanoke added four runs in the seventh frame for the final count.
Jacob Clifton went 4-6 with a double, a triple, two runs and five RBI for the Maroons (5-8). Rawlings Cumbea earned the win after pitching an inning for Roanoke, which threw nine pitchers one inning each.
Clay Massie went 2-4 with a double, a run and an RBI for the Panthers (13-6).
Easton Riggs absorbed the loss for Ferrum, which also threw nine different pitchers.
Ferrum (13-6) will be back in action Saturday and Sunday, March 22-23, at home against Methodist College in a three-game USA South series. The two teams play a doubleheader Saturday at 3:00 p.m., then come back for a single game Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
