Heather Mayberry and
Amanda Roberts all homered to help Ferrum College win the opener of a non-conference softball doubleheader against Randolph College tonight at home. The Panthers took game one 11-3, before falling 7-1 in the nightcap at Franklin Community Bank Field.
Roberts pitched five innings to get the win, allowing eight hits, three earned runs and four walks, while striking out two. Her home run was a three-run blast in the second inning. Thompson had a two-run homer in the fifth inning, and Mayberry had a solo shot in the sixth. Thompson went 3-4 with a triple, home run, two runs and two RBI.
In the nightcap, Hunter Glave had a solo home run in the seventh inning for the Wildcats (13-6). Logan Carter pitched all seven innings for Randolph to earn the win, allowing seven hits, one earned run and a walk, and striking out eight.
Kylene Culler went 2-3 for Ferrum with an RBI.
Ferrum (13-7) wil return to action Sunday, March 23, at home against Meredith College. The USA South doubleheader gets underway at 1:00 p.m.
