Adam Duncan went 3-4 and
Justin Cox went 3-5 in game one as Ferrum College split a USA South baseball doubleheader with Averett University today at Panther Field. The Panthers took the opener 14-2, only to see Averett score seven runs in the ninth inning to take the nightcap 15-10.
Sean King earned the win in the opener after pitching three innings in reilef of starter
Jake Perkins. King allowed two hits, no runs and a walk. Cody Johnson got the loss after throwing the first three and a third innings, and allowing six hits, six earned runs and three walks.
Hunter Ashworth, JT Crowder and Cody Moore had three base hits each as Averett (9-15, 4-10 USA South) took the nightcap 15-10. The Cougars trailed 10-8 after eight innings, but scored seven runs in the top of the ninth to post the come-from-behind win.
Ferrum (17-8, 14-3 USA South) and Averett play the third and final game of the league series Monday, March 31, in Ferrum. The game is scheduled to get underway at 7:00 p.m. at Panther Field.
