NORTH MRYTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Ferrum College swept a pair of non-conference softball games today in wrapping up its Spring Break '14 trip. The Panthers beat Lycoming College 18-3 and Gwynedd Mercy University 13-1.
Aiyana Lew was the winning pitcher against Lycoming, tossing three innings in relief. She also went 2-4 at the plate with a triple and two RBI.
Karly Thompson was 3-5 with a triple and five RBI, and
Sadie Wallace had a solo home run home run in the fourth inning for the Panthers (6-4).
Wallace homered again against Gwynedd Mercy, this time a solo shot in the third inning. She closed the game 3-4 with a double and the solo home run.
Amanda Roberts was the winning pitcher, striking out five batters. Thompson went 2-4 with a double and two RBI, and Alecia Eichenlaub went 2-2 with an RBI. The win was Ferrum's sixth straight since opening the season 0-4.
Coach Vickie Van Kleeck's team returns home to play USA South newcomer Huntingdon College Saturday, March 8. The league doubleheader is set to start at 1:00 p.m. at Franklin Community Bank Field.
