ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- Ferrum College opened the day in the consolation bracket at the 2014 USA South Softball Tournament with an 8-0 win over North Carolina Wesleyan College, then fell 3-1 to #1 seed Piedmont College in an elimination game.
The Panthers scored all eight runs in the second inning against the Bishops, including
Sadie Wallace's two-run homer.
Karly Thompson went 2-3 with a double, a run and two RBI. Piedmont held Ferrum to just three hits, by
Heather Mayberry,
Amanda Roberts and Wallace.
The Panthers opened the tournament Friday with a 4-0 win over Meredith College, then dropped a 3-1 game to LaGrange. Piedmont moves on to face LaGrange College Sunday. The winner of that game advances to the title game to face Huntingdon College, the only remaining undefeated team in the winner's bracket.
Ferrum (22-12) returns to action Friday, April 18, at Emory & Henry College. The non-conference doubleheader is scheduled to get underway at 1:00 p.m. in Emory, Virginia.
