MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- Ferrum College rode solid pitching performances from
Emily Taylor and
Amanda Roberts in a USA South Athletic Confrence doubleheader sweep of Maryville College this afternoon at MC Softball Field. The Panthers took the opener 11-1 in five innings, then won the nightcap 7-0.
Taylor pitched a complete five-inning three-hitter to get the first win, allowing no earned runs and two walks, and striking out seven.
Alicia Eichenlaub went 3-3 with a triple and three runs. Heather Maybery,
Karly Thompson,
Sadie Wallace,
Kylene Culler and
Aiyana Lew each had two base hits.
Roberts tossed a complete seven-inning two-hit shutout in the nightcap with one walk and three strikeouts. She also went 4-4 at the plate with a two-run homer in the seventh inning. Culler went 3-4 and scored a run for the Panthers, and Lew went 2-2 with a run and an RBI.
Ferrum (18-10, 13-7 USA South) will be back in action Sunday, April 6, at home against William Peace University. The USA South doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. at Franklin Community Bank Field. Prior to the game, the team will honor graduating seniors
