FERRUM, Va. -- Shannon Brown had six goals and three assists to lead Ferrum College to a 17-8 non-conference women's lacrosse win over visiting Southern Virginia University this afternoon at Penn-Roediger Field.

Ferrum jumped out to a 3-0 lead courtesy of a goal each from Julianne Bove, Brown and Sydney Hewartson. Megan Barfuss got the Kinights on the board with a goal to trim the lead to 3-1, only to see Brown notch two more and Hewartson another to put Ferrum on top 6-1. Ferrum would widen the lead to 15-3 at halftime.

Courtney Hamm closed the game with four goals and two assists for the Panthers and Julianne Bove added three goals. Hewartson and Catherine Vance had a pair of goals each. Rainey Whitworth had three goals to lead the Knights (0-2), while Barfuss Claire Houghtaling had two goals each.

Ferrum (1-0) returns to action Monday, March 2, at Virginia Wesleyan College. The non-conference game is scheduled to get underway at 4:00 p.m. in Virginia Beach.
