MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Ferrum College scored two goals in the final 40 seconds of play to earn a 19-18 USA South Athletic Conference women's lacrosse win over Huntingdon College this afternoon at Samford Stadium. With the game tied 17-17, Jen Price found the back of the net to put the Hawks on top with 1:25 left to play.
Courtney Hamm then scored for Ferrum with 40 seconds left and it looked like the game was headed into overtime.
Arielle Boyd won the ensuing draw control for Ferrum, and
Shannon Brown scored with eight seconds left in regulation. Brown, who won the final draw control to close out the game, finished with seven goals and an assist for Ferrum, while Hamm had six goals.
Julianne Bove and
Kiani Mohica had two goals and an assist each for the Panthers. Boyd and
Catie Vance had a goal each, and goalkeeper
Graceanne Gershner played all 60 minutes in net with nine saves.
The Hawks (0-7, 0-2 USA South) got four goals from Price and three from Lonnitria Keenan. Victoria Krupa also played 60 minutes in net fot Huntingdon, making 10 stops. Ferrum (4-2, 1-1 USA South) plays next on Sunday, March 15, at LaGrange College. The USA South game is scheduled to get underway at 11:00 a.m. in LaGrange, Georgia.
