FERRUM, Va. -- McKynsey Douglas had five goals to lead Piedmont College to a 12-7 USA South Athletic Conference women's lacrosse win over Ferrum College this afternoon at Penn-Roediger Field.
Ferrum jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 25 seconds into the game when
Courtney Hamm grabbed the opening draw control and found Catherine Vance wide open in front of the Piedmont net. The Lions scored two minutes later but Ferrum went back out in front 2-1 on a goal by Hamm at 22:09. The two teams played evenly throughout the first half with Piedmont leading 6-4 at the break, but the second half belonged to the Lions (6-0, 2-0 USA South), who would outscore Ferrum 6-3 after halftime.
Shannon Brown had two goals and two assists for the Panthers, Hamm had two goals and an assist, Vance had two goals, and
Arielle Boyd had one goal.
Graceanne Gershner played 47:49 in net with three saves for Ferrum, and
Amanda Cheney played the final 12:11 in net with no saves. Blake Forrest played all 60 minutes in net for Piedmont with 12 saves. Ferrum (1-2, 0-1 USA South) hosts non-conference opponent Beloit College Sunday, March 8, at 1:00 p.m.
