FERRUM, Va. --
Shannon Brown had five goals and an assist to lead Ferrum College to a 10-8 non-conference women's lacrosse win over Beloit College this afternoon at Penn-Roediger Field.
The Panthers trailed 2-0 early on but battled back to tie the game 4-4 at halftime. The Buccaneers went back out in front less than four minutes into the second half on a goal by Kelly Flint, only to see Ferrum take a 6-5 lead on back-to-back goals by Brown at 22:20 and 20:22. Flint scored again at 13:58 to tie the game at 6-6, the
Courtney Hamm netted a pair of goals for Ferrum and the lead was 8-6 with just over 11 minutes left to play.
Michelle Dillon scored for Beloit, followed by a goal from Ferrum's
Julianne Bove and the score was 9-7 Ferrum with 5:33 left. The Bucs trimmed the lead to a goal when Libby Storrick beat Ferrum backup goalkeeper
Amanda Cheney at 3:11, but Brown added an insurance goal with nine seconds left for the win.
Hamm closed the game with four goals, Bove had a goal and an assist, and Catherine Vance had three assists. Starting GK
Graceanne Gershner played 32 minutes in net for the Panthers, making three saves. Flint finished with four goals and a pair of assists for Beloit (1-2), while GK Marie Bonine played all 60 minutes in net with eight stops.
Ferrum (2-2) returns to action Wednesday, March 11, at home against Randolph College. The non-conference game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
